Fundamental beauty rules: they are a must.
Over the last few weeks I’ve been having various conversations with people about their own personal beauty and make-up regimes and I have to say the conversations all seem to end up around the similar notion of ‘it’s just not working’.
As you know I’m the kind of person who questions EVERYTHING so I decided to ask more questions and there were some more buzz words that came up like ‘Youtube‘, ‘MAC‘, ‘Make-up’, ‘Skin’ and loads of other ones too.
The main points were that most people were struggling, not quite making the grade in some way, frustrated and some people have even given up on looking after themselves altogether. I started getting the ‘I can’t be bothered’ and the ‘I haven’t got time’. No offence but I think these are blanket terms for ‘I am undeserving’ or ‘I don’t know how’ or even ‘I feel guilty’. I’m not even trying to be philosophical here but I realise that when we actually think about the things that we say sometimes we find out that there are underlying things that are actually the real problem. So this blog post is all about offering some help where you feel there might not be any.I want to try and alleviate some of the fears and pressures that might be causing everyone to go a little cray about beauty, make-up, skincare and all things related.
There are some basic rules that kind of need to be followed if you are ever going to succeed at achieving your best version of yourself. This is the bit where you take a step back and you think a little deeper than you maybe once had. It’s not something that this industry encourages you to do in this day and age but I think that in order for you to achieve the kind of personal goals you have, you need to actually start at the beginning.
6 fundamental beauty rules that you should know
1. Define What You Want
I know, I know. You’re probably thinking what the heck? But I need to stress this. Part of the struggle is that women and men alike are not actually taught to embrace how actually unique they are. Just stop and think for a second….There will NEVER EVER in the history of the world as we know it…be another you! NEVER. There are billions of people on this earth but there is only ONE you. I’m sorry but that is a mind blowing thought. In saying that you need to define what the best version of you is…what does he or she look and feel like? That’s your starting point right there.
2. Who are you right now?
Sometimes we set goals that we think are realistic. They sound and look it but when you actually sit down and think about those goals they are actually setting us up for disappointment because they are too far away to reach. I believe in bite sized honesty. There is no point trying to look like your favourite celebrity when 1. you’re you! 2. You’re twice the size that you want to be or have a skin condition that is preventing you from just being able to wear make- up for example. 3. You have no roadmap as to how these goals are actually going to happen and 4. You don’t even know what then end game is…you just decided that this is what you want but you never really asked yourself why. (#FAIL)
This might sound weird but please tell me who in life ever became great at anything without practice? The same applies to your frustrations with anything beauty related. If you don’t practice or build habits, you will never become and expert at it. Yes that includes that impressive winged eyeliner or that insanely amazing contour and highlight. Each time you practice something your brain adjusts to it. So go and get brain adjusting. You can do it.
Along with practice comes persistence. You wont necessarily get it right the 1st, 2nd or 50th time but every time you give up, you’re likely to need to start again. It’s a bit different when you are a master at something and even then, masters get rusty when they don’t use their skills for a while. Find the time and learn the grind!
Yes you need to be patient and give yourself and your body a chance to get to the goal. Rome definitely wasn’t built in a day and that face that slays, the skin that glows on the body on point doesn’t happen by magic. Unless you have your own personal glam squad it takes work and patience for when things don’t quite go to plan and there are set backs, curve balls, lemons and other types of citrus fruits. Get yourself some support, some cheerleaders, some stellar advice from the people that know. They don’t necessarily have to be a professional, it could just be that one friend who knows just about everything under the sun. That works too.
Without knowledge, your pretty much screwed before you start. Get to know yourself. What skin type do you have? What body type do you have? What’s my eye shape? What look am I going for? What’s fundamentally important to me? These are a few examples of questions that you might want to answer before you start setting any type of goal. Whose goal is it anyway? I think this is the most poignant question of all.
