Facial products are never far from us in this day and age. You can have natural skincare all the way to chemical hazard skincare, trust me, I’m a therapist! LOL Facial products for an evening or night time skin care routine really need to be effective at repair, rejuvenation and preparation. If the facial products that you use at night don’t serve at least one or all of these purposes, you need a new routine! Facial products should serve a purpose. When that isn’t the case, you simply need to find a bin to place them in. Of course as your skin changes, so should you’re facial products. As you probably well know from my previous blog posts. I’m a huge advocate of this. I’m not just referring to skin transitions that come with age, I’m talking about those that come with environment too.
This blog post is all about recommendations. What facial products will help to enhance your evening skincare routine? Well the truth is there are many but there needs to be method to the madness so I thought it would be a really good idea to recommend product types and list advantages and disadvantages of using them. Hopefully this will help you to make more informed decisions when you are creating or reviewing your routine.

1.Cleanser

Advantages of Cleansers:
- Different textures available
- Give a thorough clean
- Good for superficial cleansing
- Great for lifting stubborn makeup
Disadvantages of cleanser:
- Good ones need water
- Can be drying on the skin if it incorrect
- Suck when you’re tired at night
2. Cleansing Oils

Now this is a pretty new trend in beauty. The likes of Shu Uemura, Dermalogica and Niod all swear by it:
Advantages of Cleansing Oils
- Hydrate the skin whilst cleanising
- Excellent Removal of Makeup
- Excellent superficial/first cleanse
Disadvantages of Cleansing Oils
- Messy applications and removal
- Not always cost effective
- The texture isn’t suitable for everyone
3. Serum

Serums are the one type of product that can penetrate the epidermis efficiently when formulated correctly:
Advantages of Serums
- Deeper penetration than creams
- More effective
- Strengthen skin cells
Disadvantages of Serum
- More risk of allergic reactions due to active ingredients
- Can be very expensive
- Can create skin issues
4. Night Creams

Night creams are specifically formulated for use at night and usually have a different purpose to day cream:
Advantages of Night Cream
- Formulated to speed up skin renewal
- More nourishing to skin
- Makes skin softer
Disadvantages of Night Cream
- Thicker texture so slower absorption
- Comedogenic (can cause spots)
- Tend to be more expensive
