Shellac is a word that you hear all the time if you’re someone who likes to have their nails done of even pays attention to anything vaguely nail related. You hear the word Shellac flying around left, right and centre.
As a beauty therapist, many of my clients ask me if I do shellac. I think that 8 out of 10 people have got it all wrong so this blog post is about clearing up some misconceptions, educate the masses and hopefully save you some awful experiences and wasted time.
Shellac is a brand name NOT a process
This is the first thing that I need to make very very clear. Shellac is the brand name of the american nail company, Creative Nail Design Inc’s (CND), legendary power polish. Shellac is a system and there will only ever BE ONE as it is their registered trademark and the system is fully patented. So when you are having your gel polish done, if you do not see CND Shellac on the bottles being used and you were told you were having Shellac, honey, they are selling you a dream.
Before you panic, there are many other hybrid gel polishes on the market. Gelish, Artistic, Orly FX, & Gellux to name a few but these are NOT Shellac. Shellac refers to both a protected product and system.
Authentic Products Are Not Cheap
I think that many beauty professionals haven’t done very well at educating our clientele. Plenty of consumers get discouraged when they compare prices in different beauty establishments and businesses. When training with CND, you are given a recommended bracket in which to sell a Shellac Service. The price varies depending on location, speed. Other factors may affect your service such as if a client is coming to your establishment or if you are going to a place of their choice. In many instances price in the UK can vary, however I would like to caution any consumer who finds the cost of a ‘Shellac’ that is less that £20 to probe further to ensure that you are getting a genuine CND Service.
I’m not discrediting other brands as the Beauti Bank uses other brands too, however as a business owner it is important to be transparent and honest about the products we use, what is best for our clients and not be solely concerned about our profit margins. I believe that honesty is the best policy in life and business so we only use genuine products that have gone through rigorous testing and are safe to be used on members of the public.
We use Shellac for our 14 Day Manicures and Pedicures
On our website, you might have noticed that we do not refer to our Shellac service in normal terms. I had to be more innovative due to misconceptions. The 14 day manicure and pedicure were names I created to set expectations on how long the service should last once completed.
Different gel polishes behave differently on each individuals nails. You need to find the brand that will work best for your nails. Using Shellac was an easy choice at the Beauti Bank because it is a reputable brand all over the world. It is still one of the best and it was one of the first of it’s kind. The longevity, durability and popularity of the brand were a great fit for the Beauti Bank. I want you to get value and have your money’s worth. Exceeding your expectations and going above and beyond is the aim. That’s it.
Expect to pay for the quality that you want to receive.
I hope this blog post has helped to enlighten any 14 day mani virgins out there or even you gel polish pros.
