The Winter Skin Diaries – Part 3 is here! I cant believe we are already over the half way mark! Time really does fly when you’re having fun!
Welcome to Part 3.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the series so far as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them.
The feedback has been great and I’m glad that I’ve been able to help loads of people.
We’ve been talking about skin and skin care products for winter but for many people great skincare is something that is aspired to but looking great instantly is something that everyone wants like….YESTERDAY!
Of course I’ve stressed the importance of looking after your skin and using quality products etc…but I also know that my voice was phased out in your brains after the 3rd point and all you could hear after that was….
Well, the time has finally arrived. You know longer have to wait in annoyed suspense.
Before I move on, I just wanted to make the distinction that Makeup for winter skin and winter makeup are two very different things in my opinion. The approach to applying makeup for your skin and the aesthetics and colours of winter makeup make the distinction quite clear. I’m specifically referring to makeup for winter skin because I think it’s important to ensure that your skin is well cared for and fabulous and not just fabulous.
As you’ve probably noticed there been a ‘moisture’ trend throughout this series. We’ve spoken about it A LOT. With the air generally being drier, I wanted to make sure that nobody’s skin unnecessarily resembles crocodile skin or any other reptile for that matter! LOL
With moisture being so important, I think it makes sense to tell you how to ensure that makeup has sticking power on top of all the extra moisture as well as finding any protection and additional moisture should you need it. We’re going to be looking at primers and foundations as they cover the largest surface area and provide a good base for other makeup to go on top.
So here are my top product faves for every skin type:
Normal skin doesn’t necessarily get the easiest ride in winter. Undoubtedly it get and easier ride but in order for things to remain normal, using makeup that will be beneficial for the skin, is the most important thing. In order to maintain hydration levels and in the interest of good coverage I would recommend:
This foundation is one of my all time faves! I love it, love it, love it! I love the way it goes on to the skin and it gives fantastic coverage and the added luminosity is beautiful.
Oily skin can be quite difficult to manage in winter because whilst skin may feel dry, controlling oil is often the more important concern. As someone who is prone to oily skin, I am the queen of primers that do a little extra work for me. Good moisturisers and good primers are what I would recommend for anyone with oily skin:
A great primer would be:
This product has saved my face on many ocassions. It’s effective and it has serious holding powere for foundation. You can expect to remain flawless.
I’m going to change it up a little and not suggest a foundation for oily skin and I think keeping the skin as light and grease free is a better option. This is my fave everyday go to product:
This product is my personal go to for EVERYTHING! I use it on it’s own, on top of a primer, under foundation. It is amazing and I highly recommend it.
Combination skin again can be a little challenging to cater for in winter. There is the added factor of having to handle more than one skin type. I think makeup can look great on everyone and the best advice I would give to someone with combination skin is handle the concern that bothers you the most. If it’s oil, deal with that, if it’s blemishes, deal with that and so on and so forth. My recommendations for oily skin go something a little like this:
This is a moisturising and oil balancing foundation. It provides everything combination skin should need. It has durability and provides excellent coverage. A little goes a long way
The challenge with dry skin in winter is to prevent it from getting any drier. Many people who have dry skin don’t like the feeling or look of their skin so pouring moisture into the skin at every level of the makeup process is often a good place to start. These are the things I love for dry skin:
The foundation is full of moisture. It sits well on the skin and the coverage is absolutely flawless. If you have dry skin, I would definitely try this product.
Sensitive skin needs as much protection as it can get from the elements. The wind, rain, snow and all the other precipitation and weather conditions can be very harsh on skin that already finds it difficult to defend itself. So I think the key with sensitive skin is to ensure that it has sufficient barriers from the weather and to insure that it is well looked after underneath any make applied. These are my faves:
This foundation is one of the best foundations I have come across for sensitive skin. Combined with the concealer stick this product offers amazing protection and healing for sensitive skin.
So that concludes Part 3 of our series. By now you should be a pro at looking after your skin in winter and still look magazine ready. Winter skin can seem complex but so long as you have the right tools and the patience to actually nurture and care for your skin. Always remember that:
