Waxing is one of those things that women and men wished would just go away. The pain.
On the flip side, it feels SO GOOD when you are freshly waxed and hairless. Smooth skin is somewhat delicious in my opinion. I think it’s a freakin’ human phenomenon when it’s right! (Weird beauty therapist thing methinks! LOL) I’m going to stop talking now before this gets any weirder ???
Anyway, I often hear my clients talk about how waxing is so painful and even though everyone loves the results, it would be great if the pain just wasn’t as bad. Now I’m going to be straight with you, any great therapist knows that there is a method to our madness in making waxing as painless as possible. Making your waxing experience as painless as possible is not something that I would entirely leave to your therapist. You can play a part too and help your damn self sista! (and brother!) Some of the advice I give won’t apply to some of you amazing brothers out there but I hope you’ll find it useful. Here are 5 tips on how to make waxing less painful:
1. Take some paracetamol
A little bit of pre-emptive pain relief goes a long way. Taking some paracetamol 30 mins before your waxing appointment will do wonders for your pain receptors. You simply don’t feel the waxing pain as much.
2. Make sure your therapist is the bomb diggity
Yes you read correctly. The better the therapist, the less likely you are to feel the pain. Let me be clear here, I didn’t say the more experienced your therapist is, even if it can help. Some therapists just have a natural aptitude for making waxing pretty painless. It’s their thing and they are amazing at it and they might be 18 years old. Only discredit somebody and their skills based on YOUR EXPERIENCE of their handiwork. Not somebody’s opinion of their handiwork. You know what people say about experience being the best teacher!
3. Know your wax
I can’t stress this enough! If you’re lucky enough to be able to use any wax and get away with it, I’m happy for you. For those of you that are not so lucky, stay away from the cheap stuff. It just isn’t your friend. More expensive wax means more superior formulations and ingredients. Premium brand such as Lycon, Adam & Eve, Outback Organics and Waxperts (This is what we use at The Beauti Bank) have better resins in their formulas. They are kinder to your skin. That’s it.
4. Time your Waxing
Ladies, this one is for you! The closer you are to that infamous time of the month, the more your waxing is going to hurt. Point blank, period. Pun very much intended! Ha ha. The increased secretion of hormones in your body mean that your pain receptors are super sensitive. I would be aiming for the middle of your cycle e.g. 2 weeks after your period has finished.
When you are being waxed it is important to make sure that your skin isn’t dry. Wax adheres to dry things as it cannot stick to things that are wet. Do not moisturise directly before your appointment but just make sure your skin is supple and not Sahara-dessert-dry!
6. You better not be looking like Chewbacca
Ladies and gents. TRIM. Please for the love of God, trim your hairs to a reasonable length or you are bringing the pain on yourself! If your hairs are longer than about half a centimetre, you’re entering the extra pain zone. Ask your therapist if you need guidance but do not be looking like Chewbacca’s cousin and think that we won’t pull out some garden shears! It’s just not fair!
So my beauties, I hope the hostest with the mostest has helped you to make your waxing dread a thing of the past!
Let me know how it goes!
Ciao for now loves…..
