Hope you’ve had a great week and that you are full of awesomesauce with some ‘craziness of the weekend’ sprinkes on top! ( I don’t know what’s gotten into me so please don’t ask! LOL)
I’ve been having quite a pensive week this week. Lots of thinking and mulling over small things, big things and some things in between. This week I’ve been working really hard with clients and enjoying my work as always but I feel like i’ve been living in the twilight zone a little this week. Some relatively deep conversations have made me think about my vision and about the beauty industry in general. Day in, day out I just get up and go. This week was different. I stepped back and actually thought about the path that I’m walking down as a professional and where is the destination for me and for all the amazing people that I serve and work with. I needed to answer this question and I decided that this week’s blog is about telling you my answers so first things first , let me explain…..
What’s a heart led professional?
A heart led professional is someone who is passionate about the service they give. There is a deeper reason behind why they do what they do. They aren’t solely driven by money and profit making and they have a deep sense of wanting to help others and make an impact on the world.
Why is working with heart led professionals is good for you?
There is nothing worse than working with someone who doesn’t like or enjoy they’re job, especially a beauty professional. There is always that sneaky suspicion that they might not do a good job coupled with bad customer service in and amongst other issues that could arise. One thing that remains true is that when someone is passionate about what they do. It comes through. You feel, hear, smell or see it and it makes you feel more confident in the service you get or the advice you are given and even the products you buy. Ultimately you feel like you’ve been given the best or something quite close to it and that is a good place to be and then it lead me to think…
Why is it important to me to serve you from my heart?
I didn’t become a beauty therapist and make-up artist for the money. There are so many parts of my job that other people even hate on my behalf. Waxing and pedicures to name a few LOL
So many women (and men) interact with beauty therapists on a daily basis whether it be in salons, spas, department stores, at home, in hotels, wherever. I’m a service professional and I have clients but deep down there is more to me than just the skills that I possess and learn. Back when I chose this career path I wanted to serve people using my passions. I wanted to serve you. The thing is, I didn’t just want to serve you in a one off kind of ‘come and find me when you need me’ kind of way. I wanted to build relationships and to better understand the ways in which your lives work in order to serve you better. I wanted to understand the gaps that you are having in understanding your own beauty, health and well-being.
This week it dawned on me that I’m quite alone in my vision for modern beauty. There are few heart led professional out there in the beauty industry. Most professionals in this industry don’t come across as deep thinkers. I ask questions and receive superficial answers. They are undoubtedly trend setters and dictators (some not all) but who is actually really caring about you? Who tells you more than you need to know? Or gives you additional tools that you didn’t even ask for? Where is the value for you?
The belief that every man and woman should be able to have their own versions of beauty as and when they want in their deepest core so that it pours out of their smiles and filters through into the world that we live might sound like some crazy insane ideal but I really don’t think that it should be. I think that the world has lost sight of how to teach the art of how to instil your own beauty. All we ever do these days is talk about how pumped up Kylie Jenner’s lips are or how
original Kim Kardashian’s boxer cornrows are and how they are the next best thing. I’m sorry but I call bu!!s*it! There are many men and women all over the world who don’t fit the Instagram version of modern beauty. It’s just not who they are and their lifestyles don’t fit either. As an industry professional it is my job, no better still its my mission, to ensure that I empower and encourage every man and woman to raise their beauty and well-being standard to a level that elevates them to be better people. To promote self love in a way that every individual feels comfortable with it. What have we done for you lately other than bring up feelings of maybe inadequacy or instant gratification. Maybe a need to conform and for very few in my experience, a little bit of empowerment. Industry needs to raise the standards and equip everyone to get to know themselves in order to love who they are. You should love you better and we should help you do that. End of. This kind of relates to what I was talking about on last weeks blog post. Getting back on the wagon is all part of that process.
You can read last week’s blog post below:
If you can feel my frustrations I apologise, because it’s not directed at you! I like you….A LOT! So much so that I’m prepared to go forward with you to throw away what everyone else tells you beauty is so we can forge your version together. No more crap, no more bull…just you, your version, your best!
Ok massive rant over, I’m putting my verbal flag down (only till next week!)
It has got me thinking though about what my next steps are and how I am going to personally try and create something new that gives as much value to people. Even if I’ve never met them physically. I know value is relative but giving none is not acceptable in my book. Not now, not ever
Thank you so much for reading.
How would you describe modern beauty? Do you fit in?
Until next week my beautis,
